Cheng Xinnong（1921-2015），researcher with China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences （CACMS），chief physiaan，doctoral advisor，prominent expert on acupuncture and moxibustion，one of the first laureates of "Prestigious Therapist of Traditional Chinese Medicine" and "Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine"titles，academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering，member of the Central Research Institute of Literature and History，China's well-known expert on acupuncture and moxibustion，laureate of the Special Government Allowance of the State Council，chief scientist with the Research on Channels and Collaterals Program under the National Program for Key Basic Research Projects，honorary director of the Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center，academic advisor to the World Fed，eration of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Societies and the China Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion，member of the sixth and seventh Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference，representative knowledge inheritor of TCM acupuncture and moxibustion as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

　　针灸学是中国传统医学的重要组成部分，以天人合一的整体观为基础，以经络腧穴理论为指导，运用针具与艾叶等主要工具和材料，通过刺入、薰灼等方法刺激身体特定部位，以调节人体平衡状态而达到保健和治疗的传统知识与实践。为了满足针灸国际教学，促进针灸学术交流，提高针灸临床疗效，扩大针灸国际传播，推动针灸规范化、现代化、国际化，在美国、澳大利亚、加拿大等国家的针灸学者的建议下，中国中医科学院程莘农传承工作室组成专家团队对《中国针灸学》进行了修订。对穴位的定位和命名，按照2008年世界卫生组织西太平洋地区《针灸经穴定位》标准，进行了修订和统一。
