书稿以我国少数民族作为研究对象，从审美人类学、艺术人类学、工艺学、地理学、历史学等方面考察了我国各个少数民族的美术类型，探索了不同民族的民族心理、宗教观念、艺术审美和情感集体，用文字记录了新时代背景下传统民族美术的现状，思考了这类物质文化遗产在当代经济社会发展大背景下的传承与出路。希望通过本书还原我国少数民族美术真实的发展情况，对我国少数民族美术的保护和传承工作起到一个辅助的作用，同时对推动我国少数民族民间文化事业的传播和发展起到一定的积极作用。
